With Forza Motorsport 3 developers Turn 10 have crafted and tuned the most detailed racing simulator yet seen on the Xbox, and made it accessiable to anyone.
Formats: Xbox 360
Developer: Turn 10
Publisher: Microsoft
Released: Out now
Score: 9/10
There are two ways to approach a corner in Forza Motorsport 3: slow in and fast out, with smooth braking, hard lateral g’s, a clip of the curb & power past the apex; or sideways in a cloud of tyre smoke crunching wings with rivals. Both work, it just depends how you want to play.
The driving simulation in Forza 3 has weight and momentum. The feedback from the road as your car fights the turns is incredible. Sound, vibration & image combine to report every stuttering brake lock and lateral shift, telling an experienced driver exactly how close they are to the limits of grip. This is as close to ’seat of your pants’ feedback as any game has yet achieved.
But it’s not just about authentic simulation. Forza 3 does a remarkable job of catering for any level of racer, from those who wish to grab a controller and throw a Porsche round the bends to those who’ll take the wheel for endurance races in carefully tuned hand painted race cars. It takes the best hardcore elements of its predecessor and finds clever ways to soften the difficulty and adapt itself to the drivers desires. There’s even a drift mode.
