Google has launched a new Gmail feature, ‘Got The Wrong Bob?’, to stop emails going to the wrong recipients in what has become a common but embarrassing workplace error.
The application warns users that they may have typed the wrong email address and forces them to double-check before sending.
The facility is the latest in a series of innovations unveiled by Google in recent days, including the telephony tool, Google Voice, that could revolutionise the way we use the telephone.
The technique is the brainchild of Yossi Matias, a Google engineer. “I often came across messages sent by mistake because Yossi is a common name in Israel, where I come from,” he said.
“One was a communication between two people. They were having a conversation about the future of a colleague but had accidentally included him in the emails. So I thought that maybe we can provide a feature that can recognise this.”
