In February 2009 Samsung announced plans to deliver a camera that would offer D-SLR image quality and speed in a significantly smaller body size. On Sunday, that product came to fruition with the Samsung NX10, which will be available this spring with three different lens options.
The Samsung NX10 looks like a mini-D-SLR, but it is not a D-SLR. The device supports interchangeable lenses, but the body is dramatically smaller than a D-SLR due to its lack of a mirror box—a key ingredient to providing speedy auto-focus. In a D-SLR, the mirror box is responsible for simultaneously reflecting an image from the lens to the optical viewfinder and a dedicated autofocus sensor.
